Estate Planning
Wills and Estate Planning
Making a Will is one of the most important things you will do in your lifetime. There is great peace of mind in knowing that clear, legally valid instructions will govern how your estate will be dealt with after your death. Planning for your death is an extraordinary gift you can give to your loved ones.
While a Will is important, at Beacon Law Centre it is only one part of your comprehensive estate plan. We review the potential for claims against your estate under the Wills Variation Act and other statutes, and discuss ways of avoiding these claims. We review your entire financial situation with a view to minimizing income and probate taxes on death, and help you implement appropriate strategies. We provide advice on choosing your executor and trustee. We review the benefits of making a representation agreement and power of attorney in the event of disability. A “living will” or health care directive might also be part of your plan.
Finally, we prepare your Will and other estate planning documents in plain language, not legalese.
Committeeship Applications
If an individual is no longer competent to manage his or her affairs, a committee (com-mit-tee) may be required to act on that person’s behalf. The committee is usually a close family member appointed by the court. If you require assistance with the application or have questions about the process, please call us.
Elder Care
It is important that people have someone capable and trustworthy in their life to assist them in their senior years. If you don’t have close family or friends, or do not wish to burden them, we can help with your legal, financial and health care matters, to ensure that your needs are met and to help you live as independently as possible.
